Chapter 17
-Bard offers a peaceable treaty to Thorin and he rejects. Bard than reveals the Arkenstone which Thorin wants and is mad when he finds out Bilbo gave it to him. Thorin wants to beat up Bilbo, but Bilbo is saved by Gandolf showing up just at that moment. Thorin then decides to pay for the stone hoping secretly that Dain will be able to capture it by force before Thorin has to pay for it. A fight is about to break when darkness overcomes the sky. Gandalf says a new danger is coming! The goblins and the wargs want the treasure. The dwarves, elves, and humans are united against the goblins and wargs in what is called The Battle of the Five Americans. Bilbo is watching all the action froma mountain top when he sees the great eagle fly towards the battlefield. Bilbo gets hit in the head and he loses conscience.

Chapter 18
-When Bilbo awakes he sees that his side has won against the goblins and wargs! Bilbo is carried back to camp where he must say farewell to Thorin who has died along with Fili and Kili. Gandalf informs Bilbo that the eagles turned the battle around when Beorn appeared leaving the goblins dead or hiding.

Chapter 19
-The dead are buried and Dain is crowned the new King Under the Mountain while the dwarves, lakemen, and the wood elves are at peace with one another. Bilbo travels home with Gandalf and Breon making sure to take the long way home being that Bilbo does not want to travel through the woods again. On their journey, Bilbo finds out that Gandalf left the company because he was fighting against the council of wizards to the Necromaneer out of the forest. Bilbo learns he has been presumed dead and the contents of his hill are being auctioned off :-( He stops the madness! The other hobbits think Bilbo's story is crazy but Bilbo doesn't care, he knows the truth and is just happy to be back home in Bag End. :-)

  1. On my opinion, i believe that this was a great book. This is one of the books that i have read in my life with passion. My favorite part of the book was when Bilbo was fighting with the spiders. The part i didn't like about the book is the end. This is because Kili and Fili have to died, it would have being better if only Thorin had died, because he did not wanted to share the treasures with others besides the group.( MARIO HERNANDEZ )

  2. "The Hobbit"

in my opinion about the The Hobbit, is that the book was very exitment, because in every chapter in came new characters that it makes the book more interestig, and that's why i liked. The part that i like most it was were all the characteres figt(The Elves,Goblins,Humas,Wolves, and the Dwards an the hobbit)Wich It was in the chapter 17 but it exist a part that i dont liked, which it is in the next chapter were it say that Thorin,Fili and kili die because they were tryig to protect Thorin. This was a very good story that i can never forget about.

  3. The Hobbit

After reading the book "The Hobbit" I must say it was a great book! I have to say that I LOVE this book. While reading this book, you may find yourself on an adventure. This book makes you want to be a little hobbit or a dwarf or maybe even a goblin. Another reason why I enjoyed this book is because all the events in this book seemed like it could actually happen in real life. If you read this book you are most likely going to forget how the real world actually works. Well .... Atleast I sort of kind of did :D. So for anyone who hasn't read "The Hobbit" you're missing out on the greatest Adventures even written!

  8. I ABSOLUTELY HATED THIS BOOK! I found it so boring. Everything had a story from the dwarves hoods to the trees that the spiders tied Bilbo and the dwarves to. It got really boring because I wanted to know about the journey not about how everything looked. I dreaded reading this book. It didn't keep me focused. i easily dosed up because the excitement wouldn't come quick enough.

  9. The concept of the novel The Hobbit is quite interesting, the reader can begin to understand the author through his text. Overall the important ideas peeked my interest. For example a few of the important ideas were that of race, character, and family heritage. Tolkien makes distinctions between each character both morally and physically; like the huge moral difference between Goblins and Elves. One is evil and the other is considered morally correct. On the other hand Bilbo represents character and break in the social hierarchy as well as the idea that you don't have to conform to the cliche of your race or family heritage. Because Bilbo is a Hobbit he is suppose to be rather laid back and a homebody. And instead of conforming to this cliche he find a balance between his to Tookish side and his Baggins side. Though i found the text rather dreary and overly detailed i still i have i lot of respect for J.R.R Tolkien as both a writer and artist. He made this entire land, language, and creatures up, his story reflects what he had witnessed and each character represents someone, either in society, or someone close to him and himself. And because of my respect for him i would recommend this novel to everyone. This this novel gives the reader a close look into the life of Tolkien in a fantasized manner.

  10. In my opinion "The Hobbit" was a great book I enjoyed. To be honest there was parts where it really bored me but there were other which it was really exciting. For example when Bilbo first saw Gollum or when he first spoke to the dragon Smaug.

  11. i really enjoy the hobbit. i like it how the author described every event of the journey, it was easy for me to picture every scene not like another book that you cant understand the place that the author is describing.another thing that i like about the HOBBIT was the way Bilbo change in the story. at the begging he was afraid of adventurers but as the journey continue he got stronger and stronger and more confident about him self. Bilbo even rescued his friend 2 time, one from the spiders and the other was when they were trap in the wood elf king palace. i had never like it to read books because i get distracted easy, but with this book it was different because i had fun ready every chapter. for me it was like watching a movie, i even one time when to sleep at 2 in the mooring having school the other day just because i want it to know what happen to smaug.after the experience that i had with this book i may even try to read the other books. something that i have to said that i totally didn't like about the book was smaug dead. since i stared to read the book i try it to Imagen how the dwarfer and Bilbo were going to kill the dragon. that was one of the reason that kept the story so interesting to me but out of no were comes someone that had not being mention in the chapters before and just killed smaug. that was the only part that i didn't like but after that everything was great even the battle of the five armies.i even think that Thorin dead was good because i don't wish no one dead but i think that thanks to him the battle happen and he didn't understood that there was other important thing in life then just gold. but at least he got to rest in peace with the most valuate thing for him the arkenstone..............(LEWIS GARCIA)
